Turkey doesn’t recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel – deputy PM

Turkey doesn’t recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said, Turkish media reported May 15.

Bozdag noted that Jerusalem for Turkey is the capital of Palestine.

He stressed that Turkey, as before, will support Palestine.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that Turkey is calling on Muslim countries to reconsider relations with Israel.

Yildirim noted that Turkey sharply condemns Israel's actions directed against Palestinians.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold an emergency meeting in Istanbul, regarding Palestine May 18, 2018.

Protest actions are underway in the Gaza Strip amid the 70th anniversary of establishment of Israel and the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

On May 14, Israeli soldiers opened fire at the protesters. According to the latest information, 55 Palestinians were killed in the clashes, more than 2,700 were injured. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas announced a three-day mourning.
