Washington halts financial aid to Armenia
The Board of the US Millennium Challenge
Corporation, in its meeting presided over by Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton, has adopted a decision to halt financial aid to
Armenia.
The organization explained the decision was due to the Armenian government`s actions contradicting its principles on the development of democratic governance.
Rodney Bent, the Corporation`s Chief Executive Officer, has ruled out reconsideration of the decision.
The Millennium Challenge program, which Azerbaijan has been excluded from, envisioned allocating $235.65 million in assistance to Armenia over five years.
The program, launched by the Bush administration in 2002, provides assistance to developing countries with good governance practices.
