British Aggreko will help Uzbekistan in modernizing the heating and electricity supply infrastructure of the housing and utilities sector, Uzbek media reported on March 6.

According to the information, Aggreko and the Uzbek Housing and Communal Services Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding, which has become the first step in cooperation between Uzbekistan and the British company, specializing in temporary power generation, heating and cooling equipment supply.

The main goal of the cooperation is finding a way to boost the efficiency of power and heat generation and offer solutions for a pilot project in 80,000 populated city of Yanigyul, located 30 kilometers from Tashkent.

“The pilot project in Yanigyul will become the first stage of our cooperation. Our aim is to create a joint workgroup on technical audit of current heat and power generation infrastructure and to develop and implement appropriate solutions for its modernization by attracting direct investments of Aggreko,” Deputy Housing and Communal Services Minister Gofir Jamalov said.

In case of success, similar projects will be realized in other regions of the republic as well, he added.

“Heating and electricity are a base requirement for the development of any community and company. We are glad to be able to use our experience and advanced technologies to help the Uzbek housing and communal services in modernizing the heat and electricity generation infrastructure in Yanigyul,” General Director of Aggreko Eurasia LLC Alex de Valukhoff said.

The housing and utilities sector currently consumes about 60 percent of electricity in Uzbekistan. One of the main goals of the Uzbek ministry is modernizing the heat and electricity supply systems with advanced cogeneration technologies. The goal is also provided by the 2018—2022 state infrastructure modernization program.
