Russia, Uzbekistan create new joint venture

By Kamila Aliyeva

One of the world's largest producers of refined precious metals Krastsvetmet and Uzkimyosanoat State Joint Stock Company (Uzhimprom) created a joint venture in Uzbekistan.

Its main tasks include serving the chemical industry companies, helping in collecting various secondary materials containing precious metals, Russian media outlets reported.

Russia’s Krastsvetmet has been operating jointly with Uzbekistan since 2013 and during this time it won two major tenders for the supply of catalytic systems, according to general director of the enterprise Mikhail Diaghilev.

“Almost five years ago, we already managed to win a major international tender for the supply of a specific product, which we produce - catalytic systems for the oxidation of ammonia and the production of nitric acid. During these years we have been a reliable supplier for Uzbekistan, for large enterprises united into a state corporation. In the course of operation, specific purification of equipment from materials containing precious metals is required, and we rendered these services,” Diaghilev explained.

This year the plant won another big tender for the supply of catalytic systems to Uzbekistan. Krastsvetmet plans to eventually supply other kinds of catalysts, including those that the plant does not produce, to the Central Asian country.

There are 961 enterprises in Uzbekistan with participation of Russian capital and 569 enterprises created with participation of investors from Uzbekistan in Russia.

Uzbekistan’s wide range of production methods and the abundance of its resources makes investment in its precious metals industry commercially attractive. Uzbekistan has large mineral reserves, which include more than 1,800 known mineral deposits. Uranium, copper and gold are the country’s chief minerals.
