South Korea calls Security Council because of threat of North Korea
By Ali Mustafayev
North Korea continues to challenge the international community, announcing its nuclear abilities and plans regarding the attack on the U.S. military base situated in Guam Island.
South Korea convened an emergency meeting of the Security Council in connection with the threat of North Korea on the eve of the launch of four missiles at US military bases.
"The National Security Council of South Korea will hold an emergency meeting on the missile threats of North Korea," the government told the state news agency Yonhap.
Previously, Pyongyang announced that it will launch missiles on the Guam Island, where the US military bases are situated.
North Korea has defied threats of “fire and fury” from U.S. President Donald Trump, deriding his warning as a “load of nonsense” and announcing a detailed plan to launch missiles aimed at the waters off the coast of the US Pacific territory of Guam.
The plan will be finalized by mid-August and then submitted to Kim Chen In. The military forces of the DPRK will be ready to realize the plan as soon as the Commander will order, reports the Korean Central News Agency.
The U.S. has a naval base in Guam and the island is home to Andersen air base. The remote island is home to 162,000 people. NBC news reported that the non-nuclear bombers have made 11 practice sorties since May in readiness for a potential strike on North Korea.
The American government immediately started to take contra measures as a response to the DPRK actions. The plan includes missile attack on approximately two dozen of the Korean military facilities and use of B-1B Lancer bombers, according to NBC.
US Defense Secretary James Mattis issued a dramatic ultimatum to North Korea on Wednesday to "cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and destruction of its people".
"The DPRK must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons," Mattis said.
Previously, the UN Security Council adopted new sanctions against the North Korea, reducing the Korean export of coal, iron and lead ores and seafood, which will reduce the country’s foreign-exchange income up to two thirds.
Pyongyang ignores the international community’s pretensions regarding violation of human rights and its nuclear power programs for many years.
