Russia raises price for gas sold to Armenia
Russia has raised the price for gas it sells to Armenia from the current $110 to $154 per 1,000 cubic meters since Wednesday.
The measure has driven up utilities in the South Caucasus republic. Armenian consumers are having to pay 30 drams instead of the previous 25 drams per 1KWt of electric power and 96 drams instead of the previous 84 drams per cubic meter of gas.
A US dollar is currently trading for 369 national currency units in Armenian exchanges.
Local media reported that besides utilities, domestic prices for a variety of goods and fees for services are highly likely to rise in the coming days.
The Armenian media pointed out that while prices are on downward trend in a slew of countries due to the ongoing financial crisis, hikes are observed in Armenia, which is deceiving its citizens by issuing concocted economic figures.
