Iran’s largest refinery supplies gasoline amid energy concerns
By Trend
The Persian Gulf Star refinery which was inaugurated on April 30,
has delivered its first gasoline consignment of 21 million litters
to a distribution company, reducing concerns over energy security
in the country's gasoline sector.
The head of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company
(NIORDC), Abbas Kazemi, said on Monday that the refinery has
produced about 100 million liters of gasoline since it came on
stream, IRNA news agency reported.
The official added that the remaining gasoline has been stored in
four storage tanks in the refinery, and it will be gradually
supplied in near future.
Mehr news agency on June 12 reported that the Persian Gulf Star
refinery had failed to contribute to the country’s gasoline output
claiming that the refinery produced no gasoline after its
inauguration in late April.
In addition to the Persian Gulf Star, the country’s refineries
produce about 62 million liters of gasoline per day which is
expected to hit 70 million litters next month.
Iran in the current fiscal year (starting March 20) has been
importing about 10 million liters of gasoline on a daily basis.
The gasoline output capacity of the first phase of the Persian Gulf
Star refinery, which uses gas condensate, is about 12 million
liters per day (ml/d).
Iran plans to increase the country’s gasoline output by 24 ml/d to
above 80 ml/d after the inauguration of the second phase of the
refinery this year.
