Rouhani: “Newcomers” in US must respect Iranians

By Trend

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said the rallies held on the anniversary of the 1979 revolution on Feb. 10 are a response to recent threats by US President Donald Trump.

Describing the new US administration as “newcomers”, President Rouhani urged the US rulers to respect Iranians, saying the Iranian people must be spoken to with respect and dignity, Mehr news agency reported Feb. 10.

He made the remarks addressing the rally in Tehran marking the anniversary of the country’s 1979 revolution on Feb. 10.

Iranian president’s remarks came following the White House statement saying Washington had put Iran "on notice" in reaction to a Jan. 29 missile test and imposed fresh sanctions on individuals and entities.

President Rouhani also said he is seeking national reconciliation in face of foreign threats.

Since President Trump has assumed office, the officials from both countries have exchanged sharp criticism, in particular concerning Iran’s recent missile tests.
