Russia eases ban on agriculture supplies form Turkey

Russia may soon remove a ban earlier imposed on import of certain Turkish food products.

Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) plans drop restrictions on such products as aubergine, vegetable marrow and lettuce.

Head of Russian agriculture watchdog Sergey Dankvert talking to reporters said that the removal of bans may be implemented next week.

Restrictions were earlier dropped for apricots, peaches and various citrus fruits, which make up much of Turkey's fruit exports to Russia. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that the ban on deliveries from Turkey will be removed in stages, after thorough safety checks.

Embargo on supplies of fruit and vegetables, as well as meat products and flowers from Turkey was imposed on January 1, 2016 within the special economic measures against Turkey, following downing by Turkish forces of a Russian combat jet.

Moscow lifted some of the trade sanctions after Ankara expressed its regret over the incident.
