Rouhani says Iran, EU doing their best to shore up nuke deal
By Trend
Iran and the EU are doing their best to strengthen the nuclear deal, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
Rouhani made the remarks during a joint press conference with visiting Slovenian President Borut Pahor in Tehran on November 22, the state-run IRINN TV reported.
Iran and Slovenia discussed the importance of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, aka nuclear deal) and enjoying the opportunities emerging following the deal, Rouhani said.
He further said the relations with the EU has big importance for Iran and the Slovenian president’s visit will serve to boosting mutual ties as well as ties with Europe.
A comprehensive deal on Iran’s nuclear programme was inked in July 2015, bringing to an end a 12-year standoff that had threatened to trigger a new war in the Middle East, and potentially marking the beginning of a new era in relations between Iran and the west.
The deal followed 17 days of almost uninterrupted talks in Vienna involving foreign ministers from seven countries – Iran, US, UK, Russia, China, France and Germany – and the EU’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.
