Representatives from Turkmenistan’s financial institutions and
law-enforcement bodies concluded in Bucharest (Romania) a study
visit, organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, focused on
mechanisms to counter corruption and money laundering.
The delegation visited the country’s National Anti-Corruption
Directorate, Justice Ministry and General Prosecutor’s Office. They
learnt about the objectives and functions of the National
Anti-Corruption Directorate and activities of its Technical
Service.
Discussions focused on the implementation of international
anti-corruption and anti-money laundering documents and membership
in the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money
Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism. Special
emphasis was put on the development of the national anti-corruption
strategy and importance of the international and interstate
co-operation in this area.
“The OSCE attaches special importance to efforts to combat
corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing, as good
governance is essential for strengthening security and achieving
sustainable development,” noted Ambassador Natalya Drozd, head of
the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat. “The OSCE Centre in Ashgabat organized
this study visit to facilitate the dialogue between the
representatives of Turkmenistan and their Romanian counterparts on
effective good governance practices.”
Representatives from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High
Court of Cassation and Justice provided a comprehensive overview of
Romania’s national anti-corruption and anti-money laundering system
and discussed with the delegation cases related to good governance
practices.
The delegation included five representatives from Turkmenistan’s
government institutions, including officials from the Financial
Monitoring Department of the Finance Ministry, Ministry of Economy
and Development of Turkmenistan, the General Prosecutor’s Office
and Interior and National Security Ministries.
The study visit was supported by the Romanian Embassy in
Turkmenistan as part of the Centre’s project aimed at supporting
