FM: Moscow to deepen dialogue with Ankara on anti-terrorism

By Gunay Hasanova

Russia will renew and develop a dialogue on anti-terrorism with Turkey, the Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for new challenges and threats, Ilya Rogacev, said, RIA Novosti reported.

“Political decisions have been made and now there is certainly a need to resume, and then develop and deepen the dialogue on anti-terrorism, which has been carried out with Turkey some time ago. This all is important since we have a lot of questions to them in any case”, said the Russian diplomat, adding that, therefore, the two countries have to communicate, and perhaps, in the present circumstances and above all, through diplomatic channels.

“We definitely have some hopes and expectations regarding the fact that we will resume this dialogue in the nearest future and hope to see the same efforts from the Turkish side”, noted Rogacev.

Earlier, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik told that a decision was made that Turkey and Russia will create a basis for a joint work on the issues related to Syria.

“We will do everything necessary for this", Isik said, adding that Turkey will go ahead with the decisive fight against the Islamic State group as the Republic suffers from its activity more than other countries.

The crisis in relations between Turkey and Russia began after the incident with the downed Russian plane. After the incident, the Russian president signed a decree on measures to ensure national security and launch special economic measures against Turkey.

Later, after months of enmity between the two countries the Presidents of Turkey and Russia met in St. Petersburg on August 9.

The meeting between Erdogan and Putin moved the relations between Turkey and Russia to a new positive direction and served as the beginning of restoration of friendly relations between Ankara and Moscow.
