Several people executed in Iran on terror charges

Iran’s Judiciary announced that several people charged with terror acts were executed in western Kurdistan province on August 2.

According to the statement issued by Kurdistan province judiciary the executed people were members of an extremist terror group “Tohid and Jihad”, the judiciary’s official Mizan news agency reported.

The number of the executed people is not mentioned in the statement, however some human rights’ groups claim at least seven people were executed.

The people were sentenced to death following a 6-year trial for killing and injuring civilians, wildlife guards, security forces, Sunni clerics, according to the judiciary statement.

The group members were also involved in armed robbery in Kurdistan province.

Murder, rape, armed robbery and the trafficking of drugs in quantities in excess of 5 kilograms are among the crimes punishable by death in Iran.

Iran ranks second, after China, in terms of the number of executions in the world.
