BP resumes partial output at Caspian oil platform
Production at the Central Azeri platform on Azerbaijan`s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields in the Caspian Sea has been partly resumed.
Oil has been extracted from three wells at Central Azeri in the past five days, and their number is to be brought to five wells in the next few days, according to BP Azerbaijan, the operator of the ACG fields.
The president of the state oil company SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev, said earlier that production at the platform would be fully resumed in January.
Following a gas leak at Central Azeri on September 17, work on all 17 wells operated at the platform was suspended.
Oil was first produced at the platform in February 2005.
Central Azeri is located 100 km east of Baku at a water depth of up to 128 meters. Its facilities include a production and drilling platform operating 48 wells, as well as a 30-inch oil pipeline and a 28-inch gas pipeline linked to the Sangachal Terminal.
