Two BP-run Caspian oil platforms remain shut

Two BP-run Caspian oil platforms remain shut
Production has been suspended for 20 consecutive days at two Azeri platforms operated by oil giant BP in the Caspian Sea.
Following a halt of output at the Central Azeri platform over a gas leak on September 17, production was suspended at the West Azeri platform, as oil produced there undergoes technical refining at Central Azeri. The project operator, BP Azerbaijan, said earlier the suspension of the two platforms on Azerbaijan`s major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields has not considerably affected transporting crude through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main oil export pipeline, which pumps ACG oil to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.
Tamam Bayatly, the spokesperson for BP Azerbaijan, said repair was under way on the two platforms, but it was uncertain, at this point, how long the operations would last. Oil extracted at only three platforms - Chirag, Deep Water Gunashli (DWG) and East Azeri - is currently pumped into the BTC pipeline.
