Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR requires skilled personnel in order to be able to compete at international level, SOCAR Vice-President for Human Resources and Information Technologies Khaliq Mammadov said on February 24.

"SOCAR is actively planning for training qualified personnel," he said. "Their knowledge will meet the highest standards, in particular in the field of petroleum engineering."

"The company needs people who are familiar with the latest developments in the oil and gas industry," he said. "All this is necessary because the company operates at the international level."

The changes being made in the structure of SOCAR's units are part of the operations on the simplification of SOCAR's structure and its establishment as an international company, he added.

"Currently, SOCAR has about 60,000 employees," he said. "The work on improving organizational structure will continue in the future".

SOCAR includes production association Azneft (companies producing oil and gas on land and sea), production association Azerkimya (chemical industry), production association Azerigas (gas distribution).

The company is the only producer of oil products in the country (it has two refineries on its balance sheet) and also owns petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, and Romania. SOCAR possesses a network of petrol stations in Switzerland.

SOCAR is also the co-owner of Petkim, the largest Turkish petrochemical complex.
