SOCAR launches staff  trainings

The Azerbaijani state energy company SOCAR commissioned the Gobustan regional training and education centre on October 1.

The opening ceremony was attended by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, Azerbaijan's Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, BP's Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birrell, representatives of other foreign oil companies and SOCAR.

Abdullayev said that the opening of such specialized educational institutions will allow meeting needs of SOCAR's and country's oil and gas sector in specialized personnel.

"Currently, a large industrial production is being established in Garadagh district of Baku, in particular a shipyard has been recently commissioned, which will involve specialists, trained at this centre," Abdullayev said.

The specialized workers will be recruited to work at the major oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan, in particular in the implementation of the second phase of Shah Deniz gas and condensate field's development.

Jabbarov, in turn, said that oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan is based on the long-term traditions and the development of specialized professional education, namely, the opening of new educational centres and institutions will contribute to the further development of this important sector of the country's economy.

At the initial stage, training on 12 specialties will be carried out at the centre. The Center will allow solving the problem of unemployment among youth in Garadagh district and adjacent areas.
