TPAO joins oil tender shortlist in Afghanistan

The state-owned Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has reached the tender finals to develop oil blocks in Afghanistan, the Star newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Besides TPAO, eight international companies including Exxon Mobile, Dragon Oil and Kuwait Energy are involved in the tender.

According to the tender, three companies will receive a certificate for the development of oil blocks with reserves of 1 billion barrels.

The agreement with the winner of the tender will be signed in March 2013.

According to the newspaper, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said that if TPAO wins the tender, the company will develop two blocks. One of them is the oil block Mezari Sherif, in which TPAO will be the operator with a 35 percent stake and other - Sandykly block.
