Azerbaijan to invest in Tajikistan oil refinery

Azerbaijan plans to invest in a new oil refinery in Tajikistan, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon`s press service has said.

The issue was discussed at Rahmon`s meeting with executives of a joint venture established by Azerbaijani state energy firm Socar and engineering and construction group Foster Wheeler AG in Baku last week. The joint venture is ready to develop a feasibility study for the enterprise.

During the meeting the parties discussed issues of cooperation in the exploration and refining industry of Tajikistan.

The Tajik president also visited a number of Azerbaijani industrial enterprises and held fruitful discussions regarding cooperation with relevant entities of his country.

Rahmon toured the plant producing solar panels and got acquainted with its operation. The president also traveled to Sumgayit Technology Park (STP), about 30 km north of the capital Baku, which manufactures equipment and spare parts for power substations, including cables, insulators, solar panels, low voltage and high voltage electrical cables for industrial and domestic use.

Rahmon also visited the Green Tech company included in the Baku-based Azersun Holding. The company cultivates tomatoes and other vegetables in greenhouses, producing 6,000 tons of goods a year. Most of the products are exported to European countries at low prices.

During the meeting with Rahmon, Green Tech investors expressed interest in establishing a similar enterprise in Tajikistan, which has favorable soil and climate.
