Azerbaijan hikes gas supplies to Russia
Azerbaijan`s energy firm Socar has increased gas supplies to Russia to 8 million cubic meters per day, a source in the oil and gas sector told the Baku-based Trend news agency last week.
Azerbaijani gas supplies to the neighboring country were suspended due to maintenance work in early March and resumed at the end of the month. Prior to their suspension, daily supplies amounted to about 5 million cubic meters.
Socar and Russian gas giant Gazprom signed a contract on Azerbaijani gas sales in October 2009.
According to an addendum to the contract signed in early September 2010, Gazprom was to receive 2 billion cubic meters in 2011 and over 2 billion in 2012. However, Russia did not receive the full amount of the supplies last year.
