Israel keen on closer energy co-op with Azerbaijan
Israel’s infrastructure minister visiting Azerbaijan has said he aims to explore opportunities for closer cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Uzi Landau told the Baku-based ANS TV channel that Azerbaijan is one of the main oil suppliers to his country, meeting about 30 percent of its domestic demand.
"The fact is that Israel is the second biggest importer of Azerbaijani oil, next only to Italy. I am therefore very optimistic about the future of relations between Baku and Tel-Aviv," Landau said.
Another goal of Landau’s visit is to look into prospects of Azerbaijani companies’ participation in Israel’s domestic infrastructure projects. Landau said he had discussed related issues with the Azerbaijani president and officials of the ministries of foreign affairs, industry and energy, and the state energy firm Socar.
Regional security was on the agenda of the talks as well, Landau added.
