Shahdaniz output to surge
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s biggest natural gas field, Shahdaniz, is expected to produce 24.6 billion cubic meters in 2010, according to Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR.
Output from the Shahdaniz field in the Caspian Sea will increase 46.4 percent in comparison with 2009, more than double compared to 2008 and rise more than seven-fold compared to 2007, if projections are met by the year-end, a source from SOCAR said.
During Phase 2 of Shahdaniz development, scheduled to begin in 2012-2013, annual production is expected to surge to 30bn cubic meters. During this stage, gas exports are planned to a number of countries, including European markets.
Shahdaniz holds estimated reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters.
