Price of Azeri gas sales to Turkey to be kept confidential: SOCAR
The president of the Azerbaijani state energy firm SOCAR, Rovnag
Abdullayev, has said the gas deal recently signed with Turkey
contains a provision on keeping confidential the price of supplied
fuel.
Speaking to reporters in Turkey, Abdullayev also said the price satisfied both sides.
He also noted that Azerbaijani gas alone will not be sufficient to implement the Nabucco pipeline project, an ambitious Western-backed project that seeks to transport 31 billion cubic meters of gas annually from the Caspian and Central Asia regions to European markets bypassing Russia.
The long-awaited agreement, signed on Monday by Turkey and Azerbaijan, fixes the price and amount of gas to come from the second phase of production at Azerbaijan's vast Shahdaniz field, expected to begin in 2016 at the earliest. It sets the tariffs Turkey will charge for the transit of Azerbaijani gas to Europe and also fixes the price of gas that Azerbaijan sells to Turkey, according to Turkish energy officials. The agreement will open the way for securing supplies to the Nabucco gas pipeline. Turkey will buy 6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually within Phase 2 of Shahdaniz development.*
