Azeri oil output hit record high in 2009
Azerbaijan’s oil production exceeded 50 million tons
in 2009 for the first time in the country’s history, according to
Prime Minister Artur Rasizada.
Rasizada said in parliament Tuesday that oil output increased some 14% in comparison with the previous year.
Gas production reached 23.6 billion cubic meters, or 300 million cubic meters up from 2008.
The prime minister noted that the government continued pursuing a policy aiming to diversify Azerbaijan’s gas exports. The resource-rich South Caucasus republic began delivering gas to Russia and increased the volume of exports to Georgia last year. Also, preparations for transporting gas to Iran were completed.
A record 1.9bn cubic meters of gas have accumulated in the country’s storages.
