Shahdaniz output tops 3.1bn cu m in 2007
3.16 billion cubic meters of gas were produced from Azerbaijan's
biggest offshore field Shahdaniz in 2007. The projection for last
year was met, according to the state oil company SOCAR which
produces oil and gas from the country's vast fields along with
foreign energy majors.
1.594bn cu. m. of the volume was delivered to the state company.
Gas output from the Caspian field has been rising every month. For instance, the volume made up 168.5m cu. m. in October, 181.993m cu. m. in November and 244.73m cu. m. in December.
First gas was extracted from Shahdaniz in November 2006. Four wells are currently operated at the field. The field's estimated reserves amount to 1.2 trillion cu. m. of gas. The resources will be used both to meet the domestic demand and for exports to energy-hungry European markets through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline.
