Aliyev: Major energy fields to be commissioned in coming years
President Ilham Aliyev has said major oil and
natural gas fields are to be commissioned in Azerbaijan in the next
three to five years.
Aliyev, in Britain on an official visit since Sunday, said while addressing the Royal Institute on International Affairs in London that Azerbaijan`s explored gas reserves amount to 2 trillion cubic meters. However, the commissioning of new deposits soon will bring the figure to as much as 5trln cu. m.
"As a result, Azerbaijan`s gas will be enough for the next 100 years," the Azerbaijani leader said.
Azerbaijan`s oil production in 2009 will amount to about 45 million tons, while that of gas - 25-27 billion cubic meters, officials say.
