Energy exec offers to build more platforms at Shahdaniz
An executive of SOCAR, Azerbaijan`s state energy
firm, has suggested operating two more platforms at the country`s
largest gas-condensate field Shahdaniz. Only one platform operating
five wells is currently used at the Caspian field.
Khoshbakht Yusifzada, SOCAR`s First Vice-President, told the press that BP Azerbaijan, the project operator, is looking to drill additional sub-sea wells and link them to the existing platform under the Caspian Sea. This would make it unnecessary to build another platform at the deposit, and thus save considerable costs. Yusifzada noted, however, that although construction of additional platforms at Shahdaniz requires more funds, it is important for the sake of safety, to build another platform.
