EU upbeat on closer energy co-op with Azerbaijan
The European Union is seeking to expand energy cooperation with Azerbaijan, the EU envoy Alan Waddams has said.
At a meeting of the joint subcommittee in Brussels on Wednesday, Waddams reiterated European officials` statements that Azerbaijan was an important partner for the 27-member bloc, saying both sides were staying focussed on furthering cooperation.
Further, Waddams emphasized that the EU was seeking to boost energy cooperation with the resource-rich South Caucasus republic as part of its new Eastern Partnership program. He said this collaboration would be expanded not only in energy issues but also in such areas as democratic development and economic integration.
