Bulgaria seeks 1bn cu. m. of Azeri gas a year
Bulgaria is seeking to import gas from Azerbaijan,
its government has said in a statement.
The energy companies of the two countries plan to launch talks next week on supplying 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year to the Eastern European country. The deliveries of first gas from the resource-rich South Caucasus republic are expected in 2010.
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov paid a working visit to Azerbaijan on January 22. During the visit, Parvanov held a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev. Analysts say the key goal of his visit to Baku was to hold talks with President Aliyev on gas imports.
