Clerical body condemns Israel`s air strikes
Azerbaijan`s clerical body has expressed deep
concern over Israel`s military offensive in the Gaza Strip that
caused numerous human casualties.
The Caucasus Clerical Office said in a statement that the killings of civilians and the destruction of towns and villages could not be justified by any reasoning.
"During the sacred month of Muharram, when battles are forbidden, everyone is obliged to comply with the will of Allah. We hope that the military operations under way in the land of Palestine will stop soon, further loss of innocent life will be prevented and all outstanding problems resolved by peaceful means," the statement said.
Israel dealt air strikes on the positions of Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Monday, in the third day of an offensive that has killed more than 325 Palestinians and wounded some 1,400.
The world community has called on Israel to stop the bombing. Islamic nations angrily condemned the attack, and a number of world leaders as well as the UN secretary general and the Pope urged the sides to immediately end stand-off.
