Bomb threats proven hoax, police seek suspect
Recent threats to plant bombs at two subway stations
in Baku have been proven to be a hoax, law enforcement officials
have said.
After anonymous phone calls to police claimed that bombs had been planted at the Gara Garayev and Nariman Narimanov subway stations, it was determined that the claims had no merit, according to the Baku Main Police Department. The Nizami and Narimanov district police departments have since begun criminal investigations on charges of deliberate spreading of rumors concerning a terror act.
It was also learned that the calls had been made from a phone booth, which complicates identifying the caller. Nonetheless, police continue working to apprehend those responsible for the hoax.
The threat to blow up the Nariman Narimanov subway station was made to an Interior Ministry service on Thursday and the alleged bomb at the Gara Garayev station - was called in on Sunday. Following the calls, a special group of law enforcement agents and Emergencies Ministry experts conducted a search and investigation at the site and concluded that the threats were false.
