The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 135 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on March 1.

The ceasefire was violated in Gizil Hajili village in Gazakh region, Aghdam village in Tovuz region, nameless hills in Gadabay region, Gulustan village in Goranboy region, Chilaburt, Goyarkh, Yarimja villages in Tartar region, Merzili, Yusifjanli, Novruzlu, Javahirli, Sarijali, Shuraabad, Kangarli, Garagashli, Shikhlar, villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Garakhanbayli, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili village in Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills in Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

The peace talks have been largely fruitless so far despite the efforts of the co-chair countries over 20 years.
