Armenian troops keep high tension on contact line

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 112 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on January 27.

The Armenian armed forces subjected to fire the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in Kohnagishlag village of Agstafa region, Agdam, Alibayli villages of Tovuz region, Gazakh and Gadabay region.

The ceasefire was violated in Talish, Gulustan villages in Goranboy region, Chilaburt, Yarimja, Goyarkh, Chayli villages in Tartar region, Javahirli, Sarijali, Kangarli, Novruzlu, Shuraabad, Namirli, Shikhlar villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Horadiz, Gorgan, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili village of Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills in Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

In view of the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 113 strikes on enemy positions, the Ministry said.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions of Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. This war killer more than 20,000 Azerbaijanis and nearly 1 million were displaced.

The sides to the conflict currently hold talks based on the renewed Madrid principles, which envisage return of occupied territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijani control, ensure the right of all internally displaced persons and refugees to return to their former places of residence, future determination of the final legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh, etc.
