Azerbaijan’s residents woke up to over one meter snow in some areas on the weekend. Freezing temperatures with below-zero strong winds in some places complicated life for residents, and mainly drivers, who were on their way to and from regions.

Snow and ice blocked the Baku-Shamakhi highway and Agsu passage for about two days. The Main Police Department announced that all the highways in Azerbaijan have been cleared for moving this morning.

Although the traffic on the roads runs wells, the Traffic Police recommends drivers to be more attentive.

During the holiday, two accidents, which killed one pedestrian, were recorded in Baku according to the Traffic Police. A road accident was also occurred on the Baku-Gazakh highway, during which several people injured.

The snowfall also stopped the passenger train on Baku-Balakan route. The train was able to resume its moving only after snow is cleared.

Meanwhile, the forecasters predict temperature drop in Baku for January 5. The weather is expected to be cloudy and without precipitations. The temperature will stand at 0-3 Celsius below zero at night and 4-8 Celsius above zero during the day.

In some regions snowing and raining will continue tomorrow 5. At night the temperature will drop to 4-9 Celsius below zero and during the day it will reach 3-8 degrees above zero. The forecasters warn drivers of ice on the roads.
