Georgia, Azerbaijan agree flour supplies

31 October 2007 15:01 (UTC+04:00)

Head of the Agricom company that was involved in talks on the issue in Baku last Wednesday said the two countries have yet to sign a relevant contract.
"After related technical issues are agreed next week, a specific document on flour purchases will be signed," Konstantin Osipov told the Baku-based ANS TV channel.
"We have agreed on Georgia's importing 10,000 tons of flour. Talks were held by agriculture minister Petre Tsiskarishvili. We had discussions and agreed this with the Azerbaijani economic development minister," Osipov said.
The company boss said flour imports are expected to begin within a month. He said the price for supplies was not known at this point but added that it would be in line with prices in world markets.
Georgia was hit by a shortage of grain and soaring prices after prices for the product rose in Russia and Kazakhstan, the region's largest grain producers. President Mikheil Saakashvili requested his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev's assistance in averting a potential crisis and pressure on the food industry by facilitating flour supplies.
