Notorious post office chief nabbed in Ganja
The police in Azerbaijan's northwestern city of Ganja have detained a former post office chief charged with embezzling state funds to the tune of $100,000.
Ruzigar Guliyev, who had been under international search for seven years, was nabbed at his home during an operation carried out by the crime search department employees.
The 39-year-old city resident had headed the post office No.16 in Ganja for three years, police sources said.
Guliyev, who had spent a long time in Russia avoiding prosecution at home, said he returned to Ganja just to meet with his family members on the eve of the New Year holiday and then hand himself over to the police.
Guliyev maintained that the investigation was flawed and the embezzled amount was less than $100,000. He could face between three and seven years in jail if convicted.
