OSCE MG co-chairs to visit Berlin for consultations
By Sara Rajabova
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, who are tasked to mediate peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, plan to hold consultations in Berlin.
Co-Chairs from the United States, Russia and France James Warlick, Igor Popov and Pierre Andrieu will visit Germany for consultations, Warlick wrote on his Twitter page.
Warlick said the consultations will be held in connection with the forthcoming German presidency in the OSCE.
The next meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council will be held December 3- 4 in the Serbian capital Belgrade.
During the meeting, the chairmanship in the organization will move from Serbia to Germany.
The Minsk Group, the activities of which have become known as the Minsk Process, spearheads the OSCE's efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
