Aliyev visits Italy
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday
arrived in Italy for talks on issues covering bilateral relations,
energy projects and regional matters.
It is not ruled out that Baku and Rome will sign bilateral documents during the visit, which is being paid at the invitation of his counterpart Giorgio Napolitano and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Aliyev is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI.
The Azerbaijani leader has met with Umberto Quadrino, Chief Executive of the Edison power company, in his residence at the Westin Excelsior Hotel in Rome. The two discussed prospects for energy cooperation between the resource-rich South Caucasus republic and the Italian company.
