Parliamentary election reflects Azerbaijani people’s will

Parliamentary election held in Azerbaijan reflects the will of the country’s people, Elkhan Alasgarov, Ph.D., head of the Baku Network, an Azerbaijani expert council, said at a press conference on November 2.

He further said the election was held in line with laws, adding that the reports about some violations, as a rule, weren’t confirmed with real facts.

Alasgarov noted that thanks to the Azerbaijani government’s efforts, the world economic crisis has had almost no effect on the country.

Azer Hasret, Azerbaijani publicist, member of the board of Press Council, said for his part that the ruling New Azerbaijan Party’s victory in the parliamentary election was quite natural, since it is a strong party.

Azerbaijan held its parliamentary election Nov. 1. As many as 767 candidates ran for 125 seats in the country’s parliament. The election was monitored by 503 international observers from 40 organizations and over 66,000 local observers.

Following the election, many foreign observers, analysts and experts pointed out the transparency, openness and smooth voting process at the election, as well as high voter turnout.
