Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has accepted the credentials of the newly-appointed Ambassador of Egypt Suzanne Mohamed Gamil, AzerTac state news agency reported.

The ambassador reviewed the guard of honor, and handed her credentials to President Aliyev. President Aliyev then had a conversation with the ambassador.

The head of state stressed the importance of the fact that reciprocal visits at different levels between the two countries have become more active recently, adding these contacts were a very positive sign of the cooperation.

Touching upon bilateral ties, President Aliyev noted the significance of defining priorities for moving these ties forward.

President Aliyev expressed hope that the volume of mutual trade would increase. The head of state said Azerbaijan was interested in developing relations with Egypt in all areas, and noted that there was good potential for cooperation in the fields of energy and security.

Touching upon the situation in the regions, where the two countries are located, the President noted that security was one of the important issues on the global agenda.

Highlighting cooperation within international organizations, the head of state expressed hope that Azerbaijan and Egypt would continue to support each other.

President Aliyev wished the ambassador success in her diplomatic activities in the country.

The ambassador conveyed greetings on behalf of President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to the head of state.

Expressing her satisfaction with the appointment as the ambassador to Azerbaijan, Suzanne Mohamed Gamil said Azerbaijan and Egypt enjoyed friendly and fraternal ties.

She thanked President Aliyev and the government of Azerbaijan for supporting Egypt in international organizations.

The ambassador paid tribute to Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev, describing him as a great personality and a true leader. The ambassador said she has always witnessed that the people of Azerbaijan highly appreciated the achievements of the national leader in state building in a short space of time.

The ambassador also noted that her country has always supported Azerbaijan on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

President Aliyev thanked for the greetings of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and asked Suzanne Mohamed Gamil to communicate his greetings to the Egyptian leader.
