Journalist released after appeal
The editor-in-chief of an Azerbaijani opposition-minded newspaper
was released on Wednesday under a ruling of the Court of
Appeal.
The judge ordered to close down the criminal case launched against Ideal editor Nazim Guliyev after considering a motion against the previous ruling of a Baku court on the journalist's arrest. The decision was based on the reconciliation reached between plaintiff Ramiz Zeynalov, head of the State Traffic Police Department (STPD), and the newspaper.
The Nasimi district court had sentenced Guliyev to two and a half years in prison on a lawsuit filed by the STPD chief.
