Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has said more than six thousand people on active duty military service in the reserves are participating in military training in Azerbaijan.

The ministry said the reserve forces are involved in the training and are being evaluated for task execution at the command and staff military games, which has been underway in Azerbaijan since September 6.

The reserve forces are taking part in the exercises in accordance with a plan approved by Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev.

Practical exercises on the use of weapons and military equipment in simulated fighting conditions are being conducted, and the moral and psychological training of personnel of the armed forces are being evaluated during the drills.

Nureddin Heydarov, the head of the press service of the State Service on mobilization and conscription, told Trend that such trainings were held in the past and have been conducted several times this year.

Every Azerbaijani should be proud that he was mobilized, regardless of whether it occurs during war or peace time, he said, warning that anyone who evades conscription will be held accountable under the law.

Heydarov added that each person liable to military service is told that he could be called back to the training camp when he completes his military service.

Perhaps many forget about it, but according to Heydarov, this process is regulated by law.

Up to 65,000 servicemen, 700 armored vehicles, 500 units of rocket and artillery troops, 40 aircraft, 50 helicopters of the Air Force, and 20 Navy ships and boats, etc. are involved in command and staff military exercises.

Azerbaijan regularly holds military drills to check the training level and fighting capability of the army.

Standing strong against Armenia's unceasing operations along the line of contact, the Azerbaijani leadership empowers the military and has moved to formulate the necessary armament policy by adhering to international requirements.

Azerbaijan's military build-up is in line with the country's legal right to liberate its occupied lands by means of war, should it be necessary.

Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh territory turned into a conflict zone following Armenia's aggression in the early 1990s. As a result of an armed invasion, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory fell under Armenian occupation. Nonetheless, the OSCE has attempted to foster a peaceful resolution to this conflict amid Armenia's persistent derailment.
