Azerbaijani soldier timely prevents enemy sabotage

An Azerbaijani soldier showing heroism suppressed enemy fire with retaliatory and timely response, preventing attempts of sabotage by reconnaissance groups.

Magomed Veliyev, chairman of Azerbaijan’s Public Association of veterans of the Afghan war made the remark before a group of Azerbaijani veterans who participated in the Afghan war paid a visit to the frontline, the Azerbaijani defense ministry reported.

Veliyev noted that the Armenian armed forces have recently intensified at the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops, violating the ceasefire regime dozens of times on a daily basis.

He however, added that the Azerbaijani servicemen give worthy response to the enemy attacks.

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia also remained tense on August 10 as the Armenian military shattered the ceasefire a total of 122 times throughout the day.

Since the beginning of August, Armenian troops broke the ceasefire an average of 100 times a day.

The occupant forces also frequently attempt sabotage along the line of contact and border areas, which regularly result in casualties on both sides.

Veliyev further said currently, there are many veterans of the Afghan war within the Azerbaijani Army, as well as among teachers and education officers for special purposes that are always ready to carry out the orders of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The goal of the Public Association of veterans of the Afghan war, which has more than three thousand members, is to prepare young people for military service, military-patriotic education, particularly to increase morale and moral and psychological training of the armed forces’ personnel.

Officer of the Defense Ministry Colonel Abdulla Gurbani, who accompanies the veterans on frontline visit, said during the week-long trip, veterans will hold a series of meetings with the staff of military units and residents of frontline areas. The visits are aimed at improving the morale of military personnel.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since 1994, but long-standing efforts by U.S., Russian, and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.

As a result of Armenia going unpunished for its crimes, it still continues the occupation in defiance of U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
