The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 122 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said.
The ceasefire was violated in Gaymagli, Farahli, Gizilhajili villages in Gazakh region, Kohnegishlag village and nameless hills in Aghstafa region, Talish, Gulustan villages in Goranboy region, Chileburt, Chayli, Goyarkh villages in Tartar region, Shikhlar, Sarijali, Kangarli, Novruzlu, Yusifjanli, Garagashli, Marzili villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Garakhanbayli, Horadiz, Ashaghi Seyidahmadli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili village in Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills in Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.
The Armenians were silenced with a retaliatory fire.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s that displaced over one million Azerbaijanis, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.
Peace talks, mediated by Russia, France, and the U.S. through the OSCE Minsk Group, are underway on the basis of a peace outline proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs dubbed the Madrid Principles. However, the negotiations have been largely fruitless so far despite the efforts of the co-chair countries over the past 20 years.
