Ex-minister `not disappointed` over stepping down
Former Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev has said he was not disappointed with his recently stepping down from the post as "this position cannot be held forever."
Babayev told local Bizim Yol (Our Way) newspaper that since being a member of the government was a prerogative of the head of state, he had been initially unaware that he would leave the post.
"I have served [the country] in due time. What can I say about Mr. President`s not re-appointing me? This is his right," Babayev said.
Asked whether or not he was anticipating his appointment to a new government post, Babayev said: "No, I am not expecting any new post from the authorities. I reiterate that I have served the state in due time."
With regard to future plans, the former minister did not provide a definitive answer. "For now, I am staying home."
The sixth presidential election was held in Azerbaijan on October 15 and Ilham Aliyev was overwhelmingly re-elected for a second five-year term. In the new government that was formed following the elections, changes affected only the post of the Economic Development Minister. Babayev has been succeeded by Shahin Mustafayev.
