By Sara Rajabova
Richard Hoagland, the U.S. deputy assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia has paid a visit to Azerbaijan to discuss bilateral relations with the country’s officials.
The talks mainly focused on cooperation in the fields of transport and energy.
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received Hoagland on July 23, Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported.
Hoagland highlighted Washington's initiatives to support the development of the Silk Road project, saying Azerbaijan plays an important role on this front.
He underlined that the implementation of these initiatives would contribute to stability, prosperity, and cooperation throughout the Eurasian region.
Mammadyarov, in turn, noted that Azerbaijan has taken regular measures towards expanding transport infrastructure as an important element of non-oil sector development strategy.
Stressing the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the New Baku International Sea Trade Port, he hailed the Silk Road's contribution to the development of railway, land, sea, and air transportation and even the transfer of information and communication segments.
