Armenians breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan
The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 64 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defence Ministry reported.
The ceasefire was violated in nameless hills in Gedebey region, Kemerli village in Gazakh region, Alibeyli, Aghdam villages in Tovuz region, Tap Garagoyunlu village in Goranboy region, Chileburt, Goyarkh villages in Terter region, Shikhlar, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Merzili villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavend region, Gorgan, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Seyidehmedli villages in Fuzuli region, Mehdili village in Jabrayil region as well as nameless hills of Goranboy, Khojavend and Fuzuli regions.
The enemy was silenced with a retaliatory fire.
Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a lengthy war that ended after signing of a precarious ceasefire in 1994. Since then, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh, defying international calls and UN resolutions.
Peace talks, mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. through the OSCE Minsk Group, are underway on the basis of a peace outline proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs and dubbed the Madrid Principles. The negotiations have been largely fruitless so far.
