POW `facing torture` in Armenian captivity

5 November 2008 22:26 (UTC+04:00)
An Azerbaijani soldier captured on the frontline on October 8 by Armenian armed forces is being subjected to intense and inhuman torture, Azerbaijan Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroghlu has said.
Sabiroghlu added that due to his being tortured, Rafig Hasanov has been forced to write a letter to his parents where he allegedly announces his refusal to return to Azerbaijan.
"There are Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan as well, but no inhumane actions are being taken against them here. They are at liberty to watch television and read newspapers. But unfortunately, when it comes to our captives, Armenian treatment of them is completely out of line," Sabiroghlu said.
Hasanov, 19, was taken prisoner near Azerbaijan`s Gazakh district. The circumstances of the capture are still unclear.
