Hungary appoints new ambassador to Baku

Hungary has appointed a new ambassador to Azerbaijan. Imre Laszloczki will represent Budapest in Azerbaijan, the Hungarian Embassy in Kazakhstan, which is currently headed by Laszloczki reported on June 17.
Laszloczki, which was born in 1961, is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Institute of International Relations «Clingendael» (Holland).
He held his diplomatic career in the Hungarian Foreign Ministry from the post of assistant to the general director of one of the departments of the ministry.
Laszloczki worked in diplomatic missions of Hungary, in Kuwait, Morocco, Libya and was the ambassador to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
He will head the Hungarian embassy in Azerbaijan from September. He will replace in this position Zsolt Csutora, whose diplomatic mission ended in May.
Hungary recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 26, 1991 and the diplomatic relations were established on November 27, 1992. The Hungarian embassy in Azerbaijan was established on January 12, 2009. Azerbaijan’s embassy in Hungary was opened in September 2004.
Azerbaijan-Hungarian relations are developing successfully. The two countries have signed almost 40 documents to this day. There is a huge capacity for the development of trade and economic cooperation, as Hungarian companies consider the Azerbaijani market as an alternative to the Russian market, on the background of EU sanctions. Hungary is also a good platform for Azerbaijani investors.
Moreover, the governments of both countries have expressed interest in increasing bilateral trade.
Cooperation between the two countries covers areas such as industry, energy, tourism, agriculture, trade, environmental protection, water management, ICT, culture, sports, science and others.
The trade turnover between the two countries in 2014 increased by 2.9 times, and in January-February 2015 amounted to 2,881 million dollars, according to Azerbaijan’s data.
