Baku, Abu Dhabi keen on expanding cooperation

Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates are determined to expand the cooperation in different fields.

Azerbaijan and UAE officials said the two countries will expand cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, illegal migration, drug trafficking, security of maritime boundaries, Azerbaijan State Border Service said on May 27.

These issues were discussed during a meeting between Elchin Guliyev, the chief of the Azerbaijan State Border Service and Jassim Al Zaabi, the director general of General Directorate of Security of ports, borders and the free zones of the Supreme National Security Council of UAE, who is in Azerbaijan for an official visit.

The sides discussed the issues of exchange of experience and the organization of mutual visits, operative situation on the border of Azerbaijan and the existing threats and exchanged views on the work done in the areas of strengthening border security, creation of a modern system of training as well as achieved success in this regard.

During the visit, the UAE delegation headed by Al Zaabi also held meetings at the Ministry of Defense Industry and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan.

In addition, the delegation visited sights of Gabala region and got acquainted with works on municipal improvement held in Baku on the eve of the first European Games.

The United Arab Emirates has recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and UAE were established in September 1992.
